Overview

Kimley-Horn is seeking an IT Infrastructure Architect to provide technical leadership across our enterprise infrastructure platforms. This role is responsible for the design, resiliency, and long-term evolution of our core systems supporting a geographically distributed organization.

 

This is a senior-level position for an experienced infrastructure professional who has moved beyond administration into architecture and platform ownership. The ideal candidate combines deep Windows and Active Directory expertise with strong experience in hyperconverged infrastructure, hybrid file platforms, and modern data protection strategy.

 

This role will influence technical direction, guide investment decisions, and help shape the future state of our enterprise infrastructure. This is an in-office position. 

Responsibilities

  • Architect and evolve enterprise Windows Server and Active Directory environments, including multi-site design, replication strategy, identity integration, and security hardening
  • Provide architectural leadership across Nutanix AHV, Microsoft Hyper-V, enterprise storage, and Nasuni hybrid cloud file services
  • Define and drive enterprise data protection and disaster recovery architecture, including immutability, replication strategy, recovery testing, and resiliency validation
  • Lead infrastructure modernization initiatives including lifecycle planning, platform expansion, consolidation efforts, and hybrid cloud integration
  • Establish standards, reference architectures, and operational guardrails to ensure scalability, reliability, and performance
  • Serve as Tier 3/4 escalation for complex infrastructure incidents and systemic issues
  • Mentor engineers and elevate architectural thinking across the team
  • Partner with IT leadership and business stakeholders to align infrastructure strategy with long-term organizational growth
  • Identify technical debt, quantify risk, and build clear business cases for investment and improvement

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in enterprise infrastructure engineering and architecture
  • Deep expertise in Windows Server and Active Directory architecture in complex, multi-site environments
  • Strong production experience with Nutanix AHV and/or Microsoft Hyper-V in mission-critical deployments
  • Proven experience architecting enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions
  • Demonstrated ownership of large-scale infrastructure initiatives from design through execution
  • Advanced troubleshooting and systems-level root cause analysis capabilities
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Rubrik or modern data protection platforms
  • Experience with Nasuni or similar hybrid cloud file storage systems
  • Experience designing distributed file architectures for multi-office environments
  • Experience with Azure and/or AWS hybrid infrastructure strategies
  • Infrastructure automation experience (PowerShell or similar)
  • Experience contributing to infrastructure roadmaps and capital planning
