Overview

Kimley-Horn's Portland, OR office is seeking aseeking a Protection & Control Engineer to design protection schemes and control systems for high‑voltage substations supporting utility‑grade and developer‑led projects. Projects span multiple clients and delivery models, requiring adaptability, strong engineering judgment, and comfort working across varied scopes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop protection and control philosophies for substation projects
  • Create one‑line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
  • Develop relay settings and coordination studies
  • Perform AC/DC load calculations and battery sizing
  • Coordinate with system studies engineers and utility protection standards
  • Support commissioning, testing, and construction troubleshooting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 4+ years of protection & control experience
  • Experience with SEL or comparable relay platforms
  • Familiarity with utility protection and communication standards
  • PE license preferred or in progress
