Overview

Kimley-Horn is looking for a Senior Cognos Developer to join the corporate team in our Raleigh, North Carolina (NC). This is not a remote position.

Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Senior Cognos Developer to lead the design, development, and administration of our IBM Cognos Analytics environment. This role is ideal for a BI professional who enjoys building complex data models, optimizing performance, and delivering reporting solutions that drive data-driven decisions across the business. This person will

  • Design, develop, and maintain reports, dashboards, and data visualizations in Cognos
  • Source data needed for reports and work with the data team to incorporate into the data warehouse and models
  • Perform Cognos administration tasks including user management, security setup, deployment, and performance tuning
  • Maintain and optimize data models, packages, and reporting layers
  • Troubleshoot issues with reports, data sources, and server environments
  • Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and compliance with organizational standards
  • Support upgrades, patches, and migrations for Cognos environments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience with IBM Cognos Analytics (Report Studio, Framework Manager, Administration)
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL concepts, and BI best practices
  • Proficiency in SQL and working with relational databases (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, etc.)

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with other BI data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.)
  • Exposure to Cognos DQM and CQM modeling
  • Familiarity with cloud-based Cognos deployments
  • Relevant IBM Cognos certifications
  • T-SQL on SQL Servers
  • Excel and Power Queries
  • SSAS Tabular (on-prem or cloud)
  • Visual Studio or equivalent software
  • Azure Data Factory / SSIS
  • Experience with other Microsoft Power Platform programs (Power Apps, Power Automate)
