Overview

Kimley-Horn is seeking a Land Planning Practice Builder to join our Planning Leadership team in Riverside, California.    

Responsibilities

This is a unique opportunity to make a direct impact in multiple communities and contribute to the development of long-range, comprehensive planning and entitlement projects. The position will be responsible for managing client interactions, building strong relationships, and providing expert advice to meet their needs. Additionally, you will lead and support various planning projects while coordinating with stakeholders, engineers, architects, and government agencies.

 

One of the key aspects of this role is to facilitate the growth and substantial expansion of Kimley-Horn's planning, environmental and land development engineering practices with a focus on Southern California opportunities. Responsibilities include: 

  • Foster strong and meaningful client relationships by understanding their needs and providing expert advice
  • Drive code updates focused on development regulations to ensure that planning projects are up-to-date and effective
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including engineers, architects, and government agencies, to coordinate project teams and ensure project objectives are met
  • Delegate tasks, monitor progress, and provide guidance to ensure successful project completion
  • Utilize your exceptional project management skills to deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Take on the role of a mentor and supervisor, overseeing the work of less experienced professionals and providing guidance and training
  • Prepare concise reports that effectively summarize planning recommendations and findings for appointed and elected bodies
  • Foster a collaborative approach by working closely with our internal planning team and partners to ensure a coordinated and cohesive project approach
  • Strong desire to grow and lead a Planning Team
  • Participate in community, professional, and business organizations to promote the Kimley-Horn brand as an industry leader in land use entitlement and planning, and development services.

Our Practice Builders manage their projects profitably, transition work to qualified staff, grow and mentor staff, and act as a positive leader and mentor. The successful candidate will be given a great deal of autonomy to lead, direct, and grow their business. Base Salary Range:

  • $150,000 - $180,000
  • Eligible for performance-based bonus compensation

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Urban, Regional, Community Planning or related field
  • Professional licensure (AICP) or the ability to obtain within 18 months 
  • At least 15 years of relevant experience in a Planning, Real Estate, or Policy Planning role specifically including Land Planning, General Plans and/or Specific Plans
  • Experience working with public agencies, private development companies, land developers and/or law firms
  • Familiarity with California planning practices, laws and requirements
  • Exceptional experience working with clients, developing client relationships and business development efforts
  • Experience mentoring and training younger staff, working in a cohesive team environment
