Overview

Kimley-Horn’s Power Delivery team in Denver is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer with strong capabilities in grounding design and power system studies. The ideal candidate will be proficient with grounding analysis tools like WinIGS or CDEGS, and experienced in conducting short circuit, arc flash, reactive power, and coordination studies using ETAP or SKM. This position supports major utility-scale renewable energy and transmission projects, requiring a high level of technical rigor and ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Grounding analysis is a core responsibility: The candidate must have proven experience using WinIGS and/or CDEGS to perform grounding studies, including ground grid modeling, voltage contouring, and touch/step voltage evaluation in compliance with IEEE 80 and IEEE 2778
  • Conduct short circuit, arc flash, coordination, and reactive power/load flow studies using ETAP or SKM
  • Contribute to overall electrical system modeling and documentation for solar, wind, BESS, and transmission projects
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, study documentation, and support specification development
  • Collaborate closely with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to develop and deliver high-quality engineering solutions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering 
  • 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering with a strong focus on power system studies
  • Proficiency in WinIGS and/or CDEGS for grounding analysis and modeling
  • Hands-on experience with ETAP or SKM for fault analysis, coordination, arc flash, and reactive power studies
  • Strong technical writing, modeling, and communication skills
  • EIT certification required; PE preferred or in progress
  • Ability to work in a team; both collaborating with and mentoring junior staff
  • Willingness to travel to support site visits and client meetings, as needed
  •  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using CYMCAP or equivalent for cable ampacity analysis
  • EMT/Transient modeling experience (e.g., EMTP-RV, PSCAD, PSS/E)
  • Experience working on large-scale renewable energy projects
  • Background in consulting or EPC environments

Salary Range:

  • $110,000 - $190,000
  • Eligible for performance-based bonuses
