Overview

We are seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer with specialized experience in Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) analysis and Transportation Demand Management (TDM) strategies to join our dynamic Transportation/Traffic team in San Jose, CA. This role is ideal for an experienced professional who brings technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a passion for delivering innovative, data-driven mobility solutions. The ideal candidate will have 6+ years of experience in traffic engineering, with a strong background in traffic operations, multimodal planning, and CEQA-compliant VMT analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage VMT impact assessments and develop mitigation strategies in compliance with SB 743 and other regional policies.
  • Design and implement TDM programs to reduce single-occupancy vehicle trips and promote sustainable transportation alternatives.
  • Prepare and review traffic impact studies, intersection analyses, and travel demand forecasting models.
  • Utilize tools such as Synchro, Vistro, Cube, or TransCAD for operational analysis.
  • Oversee the development of conceptual design plans, traffic control plans, and signal timing projects.
  • Work with clients, jurisdictions, and internal teams to deliver high-quality, technically sound deliverables.
  • Mentor junior staff and support proposal development and business development efforts.
  • Stay informed on evolving transportation regulations and industry best practices.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related field.
  • 6+ years of relevant traffic/transportation engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in VMT analysis and TDM planning.
  • Strong understanding of CEQA processes, SB 743 implementation, and regional transportation policies.
  • Proficiency in traffic engineering software (Synchro, Vistro, HCS, etc.).

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Traffic Engineer (TE) license in the state of California.
  • Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field.
  • Experience coordinating with municipalities, MPOs, or state DOTs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Salary Range:

$130,000 to $170,000
