Overview

Kimley-Horn is looking for an experienced CAD Operator to join our Transportation team in Saint Paul, Minnesota (MN)!

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with design staff and project engineers to develop design concepts and assist with preliminary and final engineering plans, ensuring accurate and coordinated deliverables.
  • Use basic drafting aptitude to create and refine high-quality civil engineering designs and technical drawings.
  • Perform quality checks and revise drawings based on redlines and design comments.
  • Maintain and manage drawing files and design databases.
  • Support schedule adherence and ensure quality control in project deliverables.
  • May provide guidance or training to junior CAD staff.
  • Learn and apply Kimley-Horn’s standards, procedures, and design practices.
  • Contribute to basic design tasks in Civil 3D (e.g., surfaces, alignments, profiles) — a plus but not required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant drafting/design experience in civil engineering or related field.
  • Proficient in CAD software for civil design and drafting.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing and reviewing technical drawings.
  • Ability to interpret and apply redlines, design markups, and engineering standards.
  • Basic experience with Civil 3D design elements (e.g., surfaces, alignments, profiles) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage time and deadlines independently.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000
