Overview

Kimley-Horn is looking for an Archaeological technician in our Tallahassee, Florida (FL) office!

Responsibilities

  • Develop familiarity with the federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Kimley-Horn’s and our client’s practices, procedures, and standards.
  • Significant travel may be required (approximately 50%).
  • The role involves a variety of tasks including the excavation of shovel test pits, sifting, bagging and sorting artifacts, and maintaining detailed field notes
  • The technicians will be expected to provide archaeological support, which may encompass conducting archaeological surveys, testing, or excavations, along with the necessary documentation to ensure compliance with project standards
  • The essential responsibilities of the Archaeological Technician include adhering to strict safety standards, participating in pre-task planning, and reporting any safety issues to management
  • Responsible for identifying artifacts and basic stratigraphy, recording information on standardized forms, and assisting more senior staff with various tasks as needed
  • The position requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions, carrying equipment (up to 50 lbs), and traversing uneven terrain for extended periods

Qualifications

  • Associates in B.A./B.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology, or other closely related fields
  • Bachelors (preferred)
  • Previous experience in archaeology fieldwork or completion of an archaeology field school
  • Knowledge of and experience in applying research methods and forming and maintaining internal-team relationship
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history
  • Candidates must be able to walk long distances, bend, stand, stoop, lift, reach, and kneel for extended periods
  • Experience in archaeological fieldwork in the Southeast preferred
  • A flexible work schedule and the ability to travel are also necessary for this role
  • Previous experience in archaeology fieldwork or completion of an archaeology field school
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently
