Overview

Kimley-Horn's Salt Lake City, Utah (UT) office is seeking a Transmission Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join their Power Delivery team! This is not a remote position.

Responsibilities

  • Design of Power Delivery Infrastructure systems, including transmission lines, distribution lines, and substations
  • Perform structural analysis and design of monopole, lattice, framed, and guyed structures
  • Participate in project teams in an active production role
  • Participate in project meetings internally and externally with clients
  • Preparation of conceptual and detailed calculations to support the creation of construction documents and specifications. These calculations may include foundation design, material quantities, and design of overhead power structures.
  • Daily interaction and collaboration on cross-functional teams across multiple disciplines
  • Coordination and verification of as-built drawings
  • Perform quality work that promotes client retention
  • Responsible for the development of reports and design documents
  • Expected to assist in mentoring, training, and growing a team to expand our Power Delivery practice

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in any of the following: transmissions, distributions, or communication line design
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering 
  • Understanding of the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE, and ANSI Standards
  • Willingness to travel to support site visits and client meetings, as needed
  • Ability to work in a team; both collaborating with and mentoring junior staff
  • Ideal Qualifications

    • Understanding of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), Rural Utility Service (RUS) Electrical Bulletins, ASCE-7, or California General Order 95, and other ASCE/IEEE/CIGRE standards
    • Ability to design structures using multiple materials
    • Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD) 
    • Transmission Line Modeling (PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole) experience is a plus
    • Experience with lattice towers is a plus
