Overview

Our Raleigh, North Carolina (NC) office is looking for a Civil Operator or Designer with 8+ years of experience to join our Roadway team!

Responsibilities

  • Prepare complex roadway designs, including alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and grading plans, using AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Open Roads or other relevant design tools.
  • Develop and oversee the production of construction documents, including roadway plans, typical sections, drainage layouts, and traffic control plans.
  • Collaborate with engineers, planners, and other design professionals to ensure design accuracy and project success.
  • Interpret and apply design standards and guidelines, including AASHTO, DOT specifications, and local agency requirements.
  • Conduct quality control reviews of design work and ensure compliance with project specifications and regulations.
  • Participate in project scoping, cost estimation, and scheduling efforts.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers and drafters.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and internal teams to resolve design challenges and coordinate deliverables.
  • Maintains drawing database
  • Coordinates work activities to maintain schedules and ensure quality control
  • Develop familiarity with Kimley-Horn’s practices, procedures, and standards

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of relevant experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent (associates degree preferred)
  • Ability to set up and manage printing/plotting settings
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Autodesk or Bentley products
  • Strong work ethic, interpersonal communication/writing skills and desire to learn
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Willingness to mentor and teach others
  • Detail oriented, professional attitude, good communication, team player, self-starter
