Overview

Kimley-Horn's Orlando, FL office is seeking a Substation Physical Engineering with 6+ years of experience to join our diverse and fast paced organization. This is not a remote position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform conceptual and detailed HV and MV Substation Physical/Electrical design for utilities/substations (including basic layout, electrical arrangement, one line, three-line drawings, plan-section, grounding, AC and DC system drawings)
  • Perform engineering studies and calculations including:
    • Conduit fill
    • Bus
    • Grounding
    • Lightning Protection
    • Illumination
    • Facility Ratings (FAC)
  • Assume the role of technical lead on projects with limited guidance
  • Create and review bill of materials for substation physical projects
  • Assist with developing and implementing policies, processes, procedures, standards, and technical guidance, as required, to continually improve the engineering capability within the practice
  • Plan and lead client meetings (or meeting sections) relating to physical design, as required
  • Support the preparation of project proposals and tender presentations
  • Perform Quality Control reviews on substation physical packages
  • Provide support for continued professional development of less experienced engineers in team, including technical guidance, and recommending training needs to the group

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited engineering program
  • Holds an active PE license in the United States
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects
  • Proficient with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • 6+ years of direct substation physical design experience.
  • Experience with grounding studies/lightning protection and lighting studies
  • Working knowledge of protection and control design
  • Experience with bus calculations
  • Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS
