Overview

Kimley-Horn is looking to hire an Entry Level Strategic Communications & Outreach professional to join the team in Salt Lake City, Utah (UT). This is not a remote position.

Responsibilities

  • The successful applicant will have the opportunity to use and expand their skills and experience in strategic communication, public involvement, project coordination, business development, and event planning.

  • Contracts with transportation agencies, local governments, private clients, and internal KHA disciplines providing communication and outreach services.

  • Design and implement project specific engagement and communication plans based on the needs of the project utilizing a variety of standard and virtual tools.

  • Plans several transportation related events, conferences, and workshops.

  • Assist with day-to-day operations for assigned projects. 
  • Develop effective public outreach strategies and plans for high profile transportation projects.
  • Monitor and respond to public inquires via project hotlines and emails accounts.
  • Help organize and execute events including open houses, workshops, public hearings, neighborhood meetings, ground breakings, ribbon cuttings, workshops, conferences, one-on-one meetings and other public events.
  • Develop public outreach materials including postcards, fliers, emails and announcements.
  • Support and monitor scheduling and production deadlines to meet internal and external client requests for communications materials.
  • Participate in business development activities and engage with key clients.
  • This position is full-time and requires occasional on-call availability 24 hours a day, seven days a week for telephone calls and/or emails.
  • Some night or weekend work may be required as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years of customer service experience
  • Excellent people skills including the ability to communicate clearly, listening and summarizing information, documenting interactions, and problem-solve or reduce conflicts when possible
  • Customer service mindset.
  • Ability to interface with a variety of clients and the public.
  • Be able to communicate effectively in written and oral formats including speaking with people one-on-one or in large groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Flexibility to periodically work outside regular working hours and travel, as required for business needs.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and insurance (we reimburse mileage).
