Overview

Our Seattle, Washington (WA) office seeks a highly experienced Design Lead with at least 8 years of AEC industry experience in engineering or CAD design, specifically in Transit or Transportation design. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading a team, providing design guidance, and resolving design issues in the transit or transportation sector. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills. This is not a remote position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and guidance to a diverse team of Engineers, EITs, and CAD Drafters, working on transit and transportation projects 
  • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the team, ensuring that designs adhere to industry standards and best practices in transit or transportation design
  • Offer expertise in transit engineering and CAD design to help solve complex design challenges
  • Assess and prioritize design issues specific to transit or transportation projects, based on their impact to project timelines and client requirements
  • Collaborate with the team to develop strategies for addressing these design issues effectively and efficiently
  • May work closely with project leadership and clients in the transit industry to understand their design requirements and develop strategies for resolving design issues
  • Provide regular updates to team and Kimley-Horn Project Managers
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop design strategies that align with project goals and client expectations in the transit sector
  • Provide innovative design solutions that meet both technical and aesthetic requirements unique to transit or transportation projects.
  • Implement and manage drafting and plan preparation standards
  • Develop technical drawings and plans 
  • The person in this position will develop and/or review CAD drawings of substantial complexity and may perform some multifaceted calculations
  • Coordinates work activities to maintain schedules and ensure quality control

  • Develop familiarity with Kimley-Horn’s practices, procedures, and standards

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in engineering or CAD design, specifically in the field of transit or transportation design
  • Proven experience in leading a team and providing design guidance in transit or transportation projects
  • Must be proficient in Autodesk products - primarily Civil3D
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards and best practices in transit or transportation engineering or CAD design
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders in the transit or transportation industry
  • Ability to prioritize design issues specific to transit or transportation projects and develop effective strategies for resolving them
  • Proficiency in relevant design software and tools used in transit or transportation design
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively to develop innovative design solutions in the transit or transportation sector
  • High school diploma or equivalent (associates degree preferred)
  • Ability to set up and manage printing/plotting settings
  • Strong work ethic, interpersonal communication/writing skills and desire to learn
  • Ability to work independently and with a team, with minimal supervision to perform day to day tasks
  • Willingness to mentor and teach others
  • Detail oriented, professional attitude, good communication, team player, self-starter

Salary Range:

  • $100,000 - $140,000
  • Eligible for Performance Based Bonus Compensation
